Creative Australia contracted J9 to develop and implement a pilot project focused on skills development in fundraising for First Nation Art Centres as part of its commitment to support the First Nations arts sector to increase philanthropic engagement and partnership opportunities.
Moa Arts, Tiwi Designs, and Ikuntji Artists participated in the pilot project. Janine visited each art center in the Torres Strait Islands, Tiwi Islands, and the Western Desert in the Northern Territory, collaborating closely with the boards, artists, and center managers to facilitate a community-led approach. Additionally, monthly online meetings were held to maintain ongoing communication and engagement.
The three centres were at the beginning of their path to securing philanthropic support. The outcomes of the project included each centre identifying their fundraising needs which would in turn support alternative income streams, the development of fundraising resources and ways to connect with prospective supporters.
The program continues to be supported by Creative Australia.
